This 13-7/8” platter was thrown in our studio. The brown plate was covered with a white clay slip and allowed to dry to the consistency of cheese. The bees were drawn on and the “honey comb” pattern was pressed into the soft clay with a shaped piece of tubing. After the first firing, the bees were painted with underglazes and then covered with a transparent glaze. Pale yellow transparent glaze was brushed over the honey comb pattern and the plate was fired a second time.
